Now that you have a new Viking or Singer sewing machine, it’s time to plug it in and start sewing! But first, come to this free class to learn how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine and sew a straight line. What is stabilizer? Do you really need more than one type of stabilizer? When would I use some of these stabilizers? All of these are tough questions, especially for a new machine owner. Come in and learn how to work with many of the different types of stabilizers. Remember, you don’t have to have an embroidery machine to use stabilizer! This is our 2014 Block of the month quilt club. We will be making a patriotic themed quilt. Basic rotary cutting, sewing and piecing will be taught along with different forms of machine applique. You supply the fabric and basic sewing and cutting supplies; we supply the creative ideas. Non Viking owners are welcome to participate but you must use our machines. This month we will stitching Block #5 – The Lolly Flower Block. Come and enjoy as we use the Specialty Bobbin case, the Multi-line Decorative foot, the Narrow Braid/Cord foot, the Chenille foot, and the 5 Groove Pintuck foot as we stitch the different patterns for the flowers and the Circular Attachment to make our “Lolly” flowers. Come and enjoy stitching with the decorative stitches and the different feet to create a fun flower block.
THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF WIZARDS
This class is an overview of the use of the Wizards menus including Monogram, Endless, and Background available in all versions of 6D Embroidery. 6D Embroidery Extra and 6D Premier include wizards for Express Design, Photo Stitch, Quilt Block and Split Project. The class is every Wednesday morning from June 4 through August 6 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The class fee for EACH class is $20. Students provide their own supplies, too. You will learn how to measure, layout the pattern according to the pattern instructions, cut the fabric, sew the pattern pieces together by reading pattern instructions, make an elastic casing, and make a topstitched hem. You will also learn the importance of using correct pressing techniques. The supply list for classes 2 and 3 is as follows:
- A shorts or pj’s sewing pattern (Simplicity, McCall’s, Butterick or See and Sew pattern are suggested. Buy the pattern by the hip measurement taken at the widest part of the hipline. Don’t worry about what the size number is because pattern sizes DO NOT correspond to the sizes in ready-to-wear. Buy the pattern according to measurements! Get a pattern that has an elastic waist–no zipper. Pockets are OK if you can sew straight.)
- Fabric yardage as required by the pattern
- 3/4″ wide or 1″ wide no-roll elastic–You will need your waistline measurement plus 1″.
- 1 spool of all-purpose Gutermann or Metler* sewing thread to match your fabric

Come in and learn how to quilt as you go! It is fun and fast to finish a project! We will be doing a log cabin quilt block in the Quilt as you Go technique. Stop in the store to sign up and get your supply list.
This classes is geared for beginners, 10 years old and up–children or adults. You will learn how to cut and sew the Rail Fence quilt pattern and then make it into a pillow with a sham back. You will also learn how to make buttonholes. Parents must sign a release form to leave their children with us. Our classroom is small, so space is limited to six participants. You may bring your own sewing machine if you have one, but it must be in good working order. If not, we have a few classroom machines that are available for use. The class fee for EACH class is $20. Students provide their own supplies, too. A supply list can be obtained for each class separately. However, the Basic Sewing Kit that you will need to bring to each class includes:
- Sharp fabric shears (bent handle) *
- Water erasable marking pen * or chalk pencil
- Pin cushion or Grabbit magnetic pin holder
- Sewing pins (the ones with the big balled heads are easier to use)
- Seam ripper
- 6” seam gauge (metal ruler with a slider)
- 1 pkg. size 80 Universal needles*
- Thimble to fit the middle finger
- Point turner
- Hand sewing needles
- 1 large safety pin
- Tape measure (60” size is good)
- A container with a lid to store all of these (It can be a shoe box, a sewing box, or a basket.) Please put your name on it or tie a ribbon on it so that you will know that it is yours. All items in your box needs to be labeled with your name, also.
For this class, the supply list is as follows:
- 1 fat quarter or 1/2 yd. of cotton fabric for the back of the pillow
- 1/8 yd. each of 4 different coordinating cotton fabrics
- 1 spool of all-sew Gutermann sewing thread

- 12 pillow form
- 2 flat ¾” sized buttons to match the pillow back fabric. Don’t get buttons that have a shank.

Use the Stitch Building technique to create this lovely Victorian wall hanging that will enhance the decor of any room. You will learn how to:
- combine the decorative stitches on your machine to make even more beautiful combinations.
- do raw edge applique’.
- quilt with the stitch-in-the-ditch technique.
- quilt with stippling.
- bind an edge with mitered corners.
- add a hanging sleeve.
- make individual quilted blocks and join them.
Supply List:
- 1 fat quarter of a light solid cotton fabric (cream or white)
- 1 fat quarter of a floral cotton fabric with sharp contrasting colors (We used a black background with red roses and green leaves.)
- 2/3 yd. coordinating small cotton print for backing and binding. (We used a 1/8″ check.)
- 1/2 yd. of 1/4″ wide ribbon in a color that picks up one of the colors in your print.
- Sewing all-purpose thread to coordinate with the backing fabric. (Wind 2 bobbins with this thread.)
- Polyester invisible sewing thread
- Rotary cutter
- Rotary cutting ruler
- Sewing machine with accessories, feet, power cord, and foot control
- Sewing machine extension table
- Many 1″ to 1 1/2″ safety pins
- Many straight sewing pins
- Open Toe Foot
- Clear B Edge Joining Foot or Stitch in the Ditch Foot
- Water erasable fabric marking pen or a Pilot brand Frixion gel pen
- 5-10 spools of 40 wt. Robinson Anton embroidery thread in colors found in your print or backing fabric
- Inspira Fusible Web or other fusible web
- Applique Pressing Sheet
- 1 yd. fusible lightweight batting (We sell Sew Soft in the Viking dept.)
- Press cloth or and old tea towel, piece of a sheet, or chunk of muslin about 18″ square or thereabouts. (It will be used while fusing, so it doesn’t have to be good fabric.)
