August is all about finishing those UPs  (Unfinished Projects). For some reasons, these seem to be the bane of many husbands’ existence. Look at those projects and sort them by type. This is Embroidery Club; so we will focus on the embroidery aspect of any project you have yet to complete.  Look at what we have done this year and last and let’s get it done!

6D Owner’s Class

This is the basic class for the new owner.   We will learn how to navigate the software.  Where is everything?  Learn how to use the new features.

Quilted cosmetic case

In this class, you can make what ever fabric become quilted with your favorite colors and then embroidery on that if you wish.  It is a simple project that will include a zipper installation for your added pleasure!  I promise, this is fun and easy to make!  Sign up soon!  You need to get a two 1/2 yd pieces of fabric that coordinate and a package of Inner-Form stabilizer, one 24 inch zipper, and thread to match.

American Girl – Mother/Daughter Class

School is out for the Summer. Is your daughter looking for something fun and creative to do? Each month this summer we will be offering an American Girl Class.  The 2014 American Girl Doll of the Year is Isabelle.  She is a dancer who also has a passion for designing clothes and sewing.

This class will be geared for a girl and an adult (Mom/Daughter or Grandmother/Granddaughter). This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce Sewing to a new and/or younger group of sewers. She can even bring her doll.

This month we will be embellishing a simple denim skirt. . Machines will be provided if you do not have one of your own. Class fee is $25.00. Call ahead for supply list, for class being held on Saturday June 21, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon.

 Come learn how to properly clean and care for your machine as well as some helpful tips to make your sewing better. Please only come after you have had your machine for a while. We can’t clean a clean machine.

5D/6D Workshop – Creating a Word Cloud

Use your embroidery software to create a unique gift using a technique called a word cloud.

Learn to navigate inside your embroidery software and find different fonts, mini or super designs, frames, flourishes and motifs to put together something that is unique and special as you or the person you are going to gift it to.

Come prepared with a subject matter that you will use to create your one of a kind word cloud.

Examples/Ideas:

  • Baby’s name, birth date, weight, mother and father’s name, where born,
  • Anniversary / wedding gift – name of bride/groom, and the what, where, when etc.
  • Teacher gift – what words do you think of for a teacher
  • Birthday gift – name, date, what interests does the person have
  • Family – Mom, Dad, siblings, birth dates, children etc.
  • Hobby – Like for Soccer – it might be ball, net, run, guard, goal, kick, score, goalie, forward etc.

Kothy enjoys sharing her many innovative techniques with other sewing enthusiasts, and was a featured educator at Husqvarna Viking Conference from 1999 to 2009 and now Pfaff convention 2010. She continues to teach quilting and sewing throughout the United States.

Serger Owners Class 1

That funny looking machine with all of the threads can be so enjoyable to use after you learn the basics.  In this class, you will learn how to thread your serger, balance the stitch,  serge a rolled hem, change the needles, and care for it.  Don’t let it intimidate you.  Once you master these techniques, you can serge miles and miles of stitches to make gorgeous things.  Join us in this class to overcome your fears and/or frustration of using your serger.
