Clothesline Cross-Over Purse

This unique purse is made from fabric strips and a cotton clothesline.  You will also use different presser feet to make your sewing easier.  This is the class that everyone wanted after seeing the one that Chris Dolinar showed in her Trunk Show.

Supply List:

  • 1 jelly roll or 6 fat quarters
  • 1 cotton clothesline (They come mostly in the ¼” x 100’ size and are available at JoAnn Etc.)
  • 1 spool of white all-purpose sewing thread
  • 2-3 bobbins wound with the white thread
  • Zipper foot (the one packed with your sewing machine) or the Mega Piping Foot (#413195145)
  • Double Welt Cord Foot (#4112627145)
  • Large sewing scissors
  • Rotary cutter & ruler
  • Basic Sewing Kit
  • Hand Sewing Needle
  • Thimble (optional)

Preparation before class:  To save class time, fold the Jelly Roll strips in half lengthwise with wrong sides together, and press.  Then, open up the fabric strips, and fold the raw edges to meet the center crease.  Press.

Creative Quilting–Patriotic Mug Rug

Make this Mug Rug for your 4th of July celebration.  In this class you will learn:

  • the Flip and Sew method of quilting and piecing as you go.
  • how to bind edges with a mitered corner.

Supply List If you have scraps of fabric, this is a great way to use them up.  If you do, you will need pieces at least as large as listed below.  If not, buy fat quarters.

  • 8” square of fusible fleece or batting (or fleece/batting and temporary spray adhesive)
  • 1 fat quarter white cotton or a scrap at least 12” x 21”

Please bring your sewing machine, the embroidery unit, foot control, power cord, all of the accessories and hoops that came with your machine, the USB stick that came with the machine, owner’s manual, scissors, 2-3 spools of 40 wt. rayon embroidery thread, size 75 embroidery needle or a 90 topstitch needle, a bobbin wound with bobbin thread, paper and pen for notes and your eye glasses (if you need them).

Using your new sewing machine will be so much fun once you learn how to use all of its features.  We’ll show you how to sew on different types of fabrics, sew two machine hems, make a buttonhole, and even more techniques as time allows.  Also included in the class is information on threads, needles, and machine maintenance.

 

Bring your sewing machine, foot control, power cord, all of the accessories that came with your machine, owner’s manual, scissors, a spool of all-purpose sewing thread (Gutermann or Metler),  extra universal needles, paper and pen for notes, and eye glasses (if you need them).

Creative Embroidery–Victorian Wall Hanging–class 2 of 2

Finish the wall hanging in this second class. Use the Stitch Building technique to create this lovely Victorian wall hanging that will enhance the decor of any room.  You will learn how to:

  • combine the decorative stitches on your machine to make even more beautiful combinations.
  • do raw edge applique’.
  • quilt with the stitch-in-the-ditch technique.
  • quilt with stippling.
  • bind an edge with mitered corners.
  • add a hanging sleeve.

Supply List:

  • 1 fat quarter of a light solid cotton fabric (cream or white)
  • 1 fat quarter of a floral cotton fabric with sharp contrasting colors (We used a black background with red roses and green leaves.)
  • 2/3 yd. coordinating small cotton print for backing and binding.  (We used a 1/8″ check.)
  • 1/2 yd. of 1/4″ wide ribbon in a color that picks up one of the colors in your print.
  • Sewing all-purpose thread to coordinate with the backing fabric.   (Wind 2 bobbins with this thread.)
  • Polyester invisible sewing thread
  • Rotary cutter
  • Rotary cutting ruler
  • Sewing machine with accessories, feet, power cord, and foot control
  • Sewing machine extension table
  • Many 1″ to 1 1/2″ safety pins
  • Many straight sewing pins
  • Open Toe Foot
  • Clear B Edge Joining Foot or Stitch in the Ditch Foot
  • Water erasable fabric marking pen or a Pilot brand Frixion gel pen
  • 5-10 spools of 40 wt. Robinson Anton embroidery thread in colors found in your print or backing fabric
  • Inspira Fusible Web or other fusible web
  • Applique Pressing Sheet
  • 1 yd. fusible lightweight batting (We have Sew Soft for sale in the Viking dept.)
  • Press cloth or and old tea towel, piece of a sheet, or chunk of muslin about 18″ square or thereabouts.  (It will be used while fusing, so it doesn’t have to be good fabric.)
  • Basic sewing kit
