Use up some of your fabric scraps or use coordinating fabrics to wrap over a cotton clothesline. Then coil it and stitch together to make a mat or even a bowl. What fun! This is one of the projects that people wanted us to teach when Chris Dolinar showed it at her Trunk Show this spring.
Supply List
- A cotton clothesline (available at JoAnn)
- A heavy-duty needle (Universal 100) or (Denim 100)
- All-purpose sewing thread
- A bobbin filled with your sewing thread
- 2 fat quarters of contrasting but coordinating fabrics or scraps that you have at home (These will be cut into 1” strips. You can do the cutting before you come to class to save time.) If you wanted to cut up an old garment, you could use the fabric from it instead. Be creative!
- Basic Sewing Kit
- Sewing machine and all of its parts or borrow one from us. If you borrow one from us, bring a 15J bobbin
- A clothespin

Take two T-shirts and make one beautifully decorated one. You will cutting one T-shirt into strips to make ruffles that will be added to the neck, sleeves, and chest of the other shirt. You will truly make a one-of-a-kind shirt that will be the envy of all of your friends. You can use two shirts of the same color or get two shirts of different colors. You will be the designer making your own creation! Have fun with it.
Supply List
- 2 ready-made T-Shirts (They can be the same color or two different colors if you want the ruffles to be contrasting.)
- Matching all-purpose Gutermann or Metler sewing thread
- Basic Sewing Kit
- A ruler (at least 12”, but a 24” ruler is better)
- Chalk marker or erasable fabric marking pen
- Gathering foot (optional)
- 2.5 or 3.0 twin needle

Make this reversible hat to keep your face and shoulders shaded from the sun. Use different colors so that you can use it with lots of outfits, hence, the benefits of its being reversible.

- If you are using one of our classroom sewing machines, you will need a bobbin. If you do not already have a size 15J bobbin at home, they are available for $.75 in the Viking Sewing Gallery.*
- 3 fat quarters of colors of cotton fabric (If you want your hat to have a crown with the same fabric as the brim, you will need 4fat quarters (two of one color and two of another color) or ½ yd. of two fabrics. If you prefer to buy yardage, you will need ½ yard of two coordinating fabrics instead of the fat quarters.
- ½ yd. of quilt and craft batting (Get the Pellon version in the interfacing section of JoAnn’s. It has a green label.)
- 1 spool of Gutermann or Metler* all-purpose sewing thread to match your fabric
- Pinking shears if you have some. If you do not have any, you may borrow ours.
