You took the owner’s class for your software, but do you still need more help?  This class will go a step farther to help you to be able to use your software to develop applique-in-the-hoop designs for your embroidery machine.

Learn to Sew 3 – Part 2 Log Cabin Quilt Throw

In this class you will:

Be finishing the piecing of your squares and then joining your squares to each other.

Why it is important to iron your squares and why seams get pressed in different directions.

We will discuss Log Cabin Quilt part 3 class at the end of class so you will have everything ready for  your 3rd class.

Computer 101: How to Set Up Your Embroidery Library Files

If have MANY embroidery designs, and  are they scattered all over the place in a jumble on your computer?  Learn how to organize them so that you can find them when you want to use them.  This class is for you!

Connecting Your Machine to a Computer–Viking Owner #4

If you have one of these Husqvarna Viking  Designers–the Diamond Royale, Diamond deLuxe, Diamond, Ruby deLuxe, Ruby, Topaz 50, 30, 25 and 20, or an SE, you have the capability of connecting your machine to a computer or a USB stick to transfer embroidery designs.  Claudia will teach you how to do this in this class.

 

Prerequisite:  You must be able to perform the basic operations of your machine to be able to take the class.  If you cannot, please complete the Machine Basics–Viking Owner’s Class #1 and Embroidery Basics–Viking Owner’s Class #3 prior to registering.

 

NOTE: Students should install HUSQVARNA VIKING® 6D™ Organizer and Communication Software on their laptops before coming to class.  Files are found at:

 www.husqvarnaviking.com Look for Embroidery Machines Support and download the software. You will be asked to enter a code; the code (9200) is the one located in your User’s Guide.

Learn to Sew 3 – Part 1 Log Cabin Quilt Throw

In this class you will be learning not only how to create a log cabin square but one of the fastest ways to create a throw quilt.

You will be  learning how to get the perfect 1/4″ seam and why it is one of the most important things about quilting.

You will learn how to square up your blocks as they grow in size.

We will discuss pattern layout possibilities.

We will discuss Log Cabin Quilt part 2 and part 3 at the end of class so you will have everything ready for  your other classes.

Student is responsible for: Bringing  their cut fabric, duel/duty thread for piecing, long pins with round ball end, stitch rippers, and good reading glasses.  Signing up and paying class fee before the day of class to hold your seat and picking up your supply list. There will be a class scheduled on how to cut your fabric with a rotary cutter before this class is held. Rotary cutting class is free to you for signing up to this log Cabin Class. The date of the rotary class is to be announced and will be relayed to you.

 

Owners’ Class Three- Embroidery Basics

Learn to Sew 1 – Part 2 Pajama Bottoms

100q_stitchesIn this class you will learn: How and why different stitches are used to sew a garment together, How to line up the front and back of your pants and sew them, How to make a casing and run elastic, How to hem your pants, We will discuss Learning to Sew 2 at the end of class for those interested

Student is responsible for:  Bringing their pattern instructions Pattern cut out and still attached to their cut out fabric Thread to match fabric Elastic for waist

Learn to Sew 2 – Part 2 Pillows

How to make a Flange Pillow, how to make button holes, and sew on buttons with your machine, and how to top stitch.

For those that get done early and what to learn how to sew an invisible zipper , you will need to provide the invisible zipper and we will have fabric available for you to use.

 

 

 

Student is responsible for: purchasing and bringing the supplies on the list they received in class one, Fabric, thread, and buttons.

Learn to Sew 2 – Part 1 Pillows

pillow caseIn this class you will learn:

 

How to make a pillow case, you will learn how to attach an accent piece of fabric so that the seam is concealed. You will also learn how to finish off your seams.

For the first night You will need: 

Choose  2 coordinating fabrics, one for the cuff and the other for the body of your pillowcase.

Cuff:  cut 1 piece 11 ½”  by  45”  ( all cuff are the same size )

Body of the Pillowcase:

Standard Pillow   cut 1 piece 45” by 27”  ( for a pillow 20” by 26” )

Queen Pillow       cut 1 piece 45” by 32”  (for a pillow 20” by 30”)

King Pillow           cut 1 piece   45” by 38”  (for a pillow 20” by 36”)

You will also need coordinating thread.

We will discuss what you need for night two and give you a list then of the supplies you need for the Flange Pillow and if you would like help picking out your fabric we will be available.

You will be given a pattern  and get a refresher on laying out your pattern on fabric for next class.

In the second class we will be making a flange pillow.

Student is responsible for: 

Signing up before day of class with class fee, picking up your supply list when signing up, purchasing a fabric and matching thread, and coming to class 15 minutes before class is scheduled to start.

 

Learn to Sew 1 – Part 1 Pajama Bottoms

Creative Serging–Serger Foot Bag

Learn how to use 6 different presser feet for your serger when you make this unique bag.  Optional:  You can also (if you wish and if there is time) learn how to install a top zipper gusset so you can keep your bag closed.  The extra feet used are:

Sew fleece squares together, and cut the seam allowances to make this  cozy quilt.    This is a great Mom and Me class!

Serger Basics

Welcome to serger basics! This class is designed for all skill level machine owners, and is highly recommended for first time serger owners or new serger model owners! You will learn:

– proper threading of your machine (4 thread overcast)

-converting to a 3 thread narrow stitch

-converting to a 3 thread rolled hem

We also cover stitch length adjustments, differential feed use, needle replacement, tension adjustments, and basic machine cleaning.

Please bring your serger and all accesories for it, about 1/4 yd of plain cotton or flannel fabric, and 4 different colors of serger thread (just one spool of each color).

You must complete a Owners Basics class before you may take the advanced course.  Supply wise, please bring your sewing machine (and all necessary accessories), about 1/2 yd of plain cotton fabric, a small standard zipper (4-7 in. preferred), a 12″ x 12″ square of batting if you wish to learn the free motion quilting, and of course, thread!

Welcome to the 3rd level of machine owners classes –  Embroidery Basics! This class will walk you through a basic stitch out – from beginning to end. Level one (owners basics) completition required. Topics covered include:

Design File Trasfer

Proper Hooping Techniques

Types of Stabilizers

Design setup: how to position design on screen, how to choose proper hoop size, how to rotate and resize, how to manipluate stitch order and count, how to delete stop functions in lettering

And, if time allows, Applique by Machine Embroidery

Please be sure to bring all necessary machine accessories (ie the embroidery unit, power cord, foot pedal, etc) . In addition, you will need the small hoop that comes with your machine, fabric (prefer solid cotton), bobbin thread, stabilizer, 3 -4 colors of embroidery thread, USB stick that comes with your machine, and your thinking cap!

Serger Basics

Welcome to serger basics! This class is designed for all skill level machine owners, and is highly recommended for first time serger owners or new serger model owners! You will learn:

– proper threading of your machine (4 thread overcast)

-converting to a 3 thread narrow stitch

-converting to a 3 thread rolled hem

We also cover stitch length adjustments, differential feed use, needle replacement, tension adjustments, and basic machine cleaning.

Please bring your serger and all accesories for it, about 1/4 yd of plain cotton or flannel fabric, and 4 different colors of serger thread (just one spool of each color).

Foot of the Month Quilt – Block Five!

The Foot of the Month Quilt is back! Block #5 – Flat Felled Foot!

Each month, we will complete one block using one or more specialty Viking feet. After all 12 blocks are complete, we piece and quilt it! This beautiful completed quilt was done by Judy Foster:

New Owners Embroidery class

thread_238x111This class you will learn the basics of embroidery . You will learn all about stabilizing, hooping, and stitching Out . Bring your machine and all accessories.

Sew Young Sew Fun–Ruffled T-shirt

Take two T-shirts and make one beautifully decorated one.  You will cutting one T-shirt into strips to make ruffles that will be added to the neck, sleeves, and chest of the other shirt.  You will truly make a one-of-a-kind shirt that will be the envy of all of your friends.  You can use two shirts of the same color or get two shirts of different colors.  You will be the designer making your own creation!  Have fun with it.

Supply List

  • 2 ready-made T-Shirts  (They can be the same color or two different colors if you want the ruffles to be contrasting.)
  • Matching all-purpose Gutermann or Metler sewing thread
  • Basic Sewing Kit
  • A ruler (at least 12”, but a 24” ruler is better)
  • Chalk marker or erasable fabric marking pen
  • Gathering foot (optional)
  • 2.5 or 3.0 twin needle
