5D Quilt Design Creator

This month we will load a design and create stippling around it. Then we will learn the 3 different ways to trace a design to be used in quilting blocks or borders.

Classes are held in JoAnn’s classroom across from Viking Sewing Gallery. You will need a laptop, power cord, external mouse (this helps me) mouse pad, and the dongle/hasp. 5D and 5D Extra Review Class (new series)

Express Monogram Wizard will be the focus for this month. You will be able to create monograms in over 600 styles plus add borders, frames, and motifs. One lesson and you will be ready to monogram most anything you desire.

Serger Club – One Hour Purse

This purse is so quick and easy you may decide to make one for each day of the week! Whip them up as a last minute gift for mom, sister or friends. Kudos to Jodi from Ric Rac for this fun pattern.

Supplies:

Viking Huskylock Serger set up for 4-thread overlock.

Serger thread to coordinate with your fabric

Sewing thread to coordinate with your fabric (for topstitching)

5/8 yard 45inch wide or 1/3 yard 60inch wide handbag fabric

1/3 yard lining fabric

12 inches x 60 inches “Warm & Natural” weight batting

1 magnetic purse snap (optional)

2 large Buttons

Purse Template, available for pickup at the store

Cutting Instructions:

Using the template cut:

Two pieces in your handbag fabric
Two pieces in your lining fabric
Two pieces in batting to give your bag a bit of body. You can skip this if your fabric is heavy or stiff

From the left over fabric cut:
Two 6½ inch squares of fabric for the pocket (optional). I made mine out of the handbag fabric and lining fabric. If you want two pockets then cut an extra set.
Two strips of fabric 3 inches x approx 29 inches for the strap. Adjust the length so the bag hangs to the length you want.
One strip of batting about 2½ inches by approximately 29 inches. Adjust the length to coordinate to the Strap.

Serger Class

Learn the basics of threading and adjusting tension on your new serger. This will actually take up most of the class time, but we will spend time going over how to switch to different stitches, using special feet for adding trims, and other techniques.

Please bring your machine with all accessories, owners manual, 4 thread (preferably in different colors), scissors, and paper & pencil for taking notes.

If you are interested in only advanced techniques, please call the store and we will try to accommodate your interests.

This class is for all Viking and Singer sergers

Advanced Machine Embroidery

Having attended previous classes Machine Introduction, Decorative Stitches and Embroidery Basics are helpful, but not necessary.

During this Connectivity and Advanced Embroidery Class, you will customize designs and learn how to transfer designs to/ and from your computer to your embroidery machine.

Do Not bring your embroidery machine.

All you need is your laptop with your software installed. (Do not worry if your software is on a computer that is not portable, we can gather around the store’s computer.
This is a great time for questions or trouble-shooting about any issues you’ve been having.

We Love to Sew! This is the perfect beginner project or just a quick project for the perfect gift! Learn to use the 6D Explorer Plug In module on your computer! View designs, sort designs and much more. We will walk through using this great new tool to enhance your machine embroidery experience.

Supplies:

Laptop computer with Microsoft Windows 7 or 8. Have the program downloaded onto your computer before class. Call for assistance if needed. Our store desktop computer can be reserved in advance. If more 6D software is owned (purchased additionally) bring your dongle. Bring a power cord, mouse, paper and pencil for notes.

Serger One For s21 & s25 Sergers Only

Come and learn to thread your new serger! We will cover the parts and pieces, threading for several variations of stitches and learn about maintanence to keep your machine in tip-top shape.

Bring your serger, all the parts and pieces it came with, foot pedal/power cord, manual and 4 cones of serger thread. We strongly recommend 1 cone each of yellow, red, blue and green; these match the threading guides on your serger and will help you become more familiar with the threading paths.

Quilt Club

This is our 2014 Block of the month quilt club. We will be making a patriotic themed quilt. Basic rotary cutting, sewing and piecing will be taught along with different forms of machine applique. You supply the fabric and basic sewing and cutting supplies; we supply the creative ideas. Non Viking owners are welcome to participate but you must use our machines. Please be on time and ready to work.
