Electronic Machine Introduction – part 1

Serger Basic Owner’s Lesson part 2

 

This class is part 2 of your new owner’s classes for your serger. Learn to use the cover stitch functions on your serger.

Serger Basic Owners Lesson part 1

This class will teach you how to use your new serger. Learn the features of your machine and how to thread and balance the tensions. Basic three and four thread serging will be taught.

VIKING FOOT CLUB / COUCHING

This month we will be playing with the Three Hole Yarn Foot, and the 7 Hole Couching Foot. Finish your Embroidery Club project or just play with the feet. Discover new ways to add texture and embellish all your projects!

Bring your machine, new needles, (topstitch needle for 30 wgt thread) wound bobbin, multi colored or varigated yarn, or 3 colors of smooth, not “knubbly” textured yarn to use with the Three Hole Yarn Foot, pearl croen cotton or embroidery floss to use with 7 Hole Cording Foot, Fabric for project base, Tear-A-Way stabilizer, Aqua Majic stabilizer (strips left over from other projects are perfect.), thread (30 wgt blendable cotton thread or 40 wgt embroidery thread), scissors, etc.

Learn the basics of machine embroidery with your new machine and finish your first project! Bring a Hand Towel (the kind with loops – new or old!), your Machine and Embroidery Unit, your USB stick, and your smallest hoop. XL-400 Singer and 600E Viking owners do need to bring a laptop, and your USB cable or reserve time on the shop PC. If you need help getting your machine in from your car, call us from your cell phone when you arrive at 512-340-0640, we’ll be happy to help. Don’t forget that all important power cord and foot control.

For this class you will need a lap top computer with 6D software installed (if you need help installing software, we need to do that prior to class) and a notebook.

Embroidery Club/ “Crewel Look” / Endless Design

Boiled Wool Bowl

Create a border for a pillow case, or the center of a table runner using 30 wgt cotton or even 40 wgt rayon embroidery thread to stitch out this pretty design. Embellish it with torn fabric strips sewn down with the three hole yarn foot and yarn. It is a repeating border design which can be stitched out in a large hoop, endless hoop or the new metal hoop.

This class is for adults wishing to learn basic sewing skills.  You will learn about Fabrics, notions and “tools of the trade”, as well as basic sewing machine use, while Creating a basic garment.  It is never too late to learn a skill that will last a lifetime.  Viking Sewing Machines are provided in the classroom.

In this first four week session you will create a drawstring tote bag and pajama pant.  You can then sign up to continue your learning with another four week session where you will create a top with set in sleeves, the instructors are available to help pick your pattern and give advice on fabric choices.

Further continuation of this series will teach you to put in a zipper, a great skill to learn that can be applied to clothing as well as tote bags and pillows.  After completion of this series of classes  you may continue to enjoy your new found or refreshed sewing skills completing garments or projects of your choice with the teachers available for assistance when you need them.

Or did you have a machine / hoop “meltdown” where the thread got all balled up and the fabric came “unhooped”? There’s a way to fix that!

Bring machine and embroidery unit, 360×200 hoop, new embroidery needle size 75 or 90, wound bobbin, assorted 40 wgt embroidery thread, scissors, washable marker, etc.

Kothy is well known for her down to earth approach in teaching. She is a  designer, author and teacher. She has appeared on America Sews with Sue Hausmann, and her projects are featured in several books. Kothy enjoys  showing people how to get the most out of their 6D™ Embroidery Software, sergers, longarm quilting and embroidery machines.

This is a round robin class, and all Viking Machines will be used. Each student will get to try all the different machines. Each student will do a monogram on their tablet cover.
