Calling all Sewists who would like to come to the aid of Motts Children’s Hospital’s Loss Coordinator.

We’re asking people to join us on the First Tuesday afternoon of each month to make Preemie Quilts for Motts.  We have room for 10 sewists. We will be using JoAnn’s classroom (roomier). So dig into your stash for fabrics that will bring at least a wispy smile to the parents of these children.

If you are new to sewing and quilting, we have some basic patterns that work up in no time. You can get your feet wet with something small before moving on to larger projects.

If you work or are a very independent sewist, you can drop your quilt off to us; and we will get yours to Motts.

This class is for adults wishing to learn basic sewing skills.  You will learn about Fabrics, notions and “tools of the trade”, as well as basic sewing machine use, while Creating a basic garment.  It is never too late to learn a skill that will last a lifetime.  Viking Sewing Machines are provided in the classroom.

In this first four week session you will create a drawstring tote bag and pajama pant.  You can then sign up to continue your learning with another four week session where you will create a top with set in sleeves, the instructors are available to help pick your pattern and give advice on fabric choices.

Further continuation of this series will teach you to put in a zipper, a great skill to learn that can be applied to clothing as well as tote bags and pillows.  After completion of this series of classes  you may continue to enjoy your new found or refreshed sewing skills completing garments or projects of your choice with the teachers available for assistance when you need them.

Make this Mug Rug for your 4th of July celebration.  In this class you will learn:

• the Flip and Sew method of quilting and piecing as you go.
• how to bind edges with a mitered corner.

Supply List If you have scraps of fabric, this is a great way to use them up.  If you do, you will need pieces at least as large as listed below.  If not, buy fat quarters.

This wall hanging was inspired by the built in applique stitches on the Designer Diamond Royale.  You’ll learn to create the built in appliques and use design shaping to position them in the hoop.  This class will also be a great reminder for how to use your majestic hoop and design positioning.  You’ll also learn how to save the designs to your machine or stick.  If you don’t want to do a Patriotic theme, how about Christmas?  Other designs are available for the Royale owner.  If you don’t own a Royale, we’ll have a design ready for you to use.

Sit ‘n’ Sew

If you need a little company while sewing a project, come Sit and Sew at the Viking Sewing Gallery! This class is for those at an intermediate level of sewing as it may include opinions and suggestions from a professional Viking Employee rather than instruction.

Now that you have a new Husqvarna VIKING  sewing machine, it’s time to plug it in and start sewing! But first, come to this free class to learn how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine and sew a straight line. Bring your sewing machine, power cord, foot control, all accessories, owner’s manual, colored all purpose thread and scissors.

Join us with your new sewing machine and a spool of thread to learn all the benefits of the features and accessories you have.

Using “Jelly Roll” or leftover strips of fabric, regular embroidery technique and embroidery on the “Puffy Foam” technique, we will be creating a wall hanging.

Since the project is more involved than just regular embroidery, it is 2 part class.
