Sew Young Sew Fun–Fabric Covered Clothesline Mat

Use up some of your fabric scraps or use coordinating fabrics to wrap over a cotton clothesline.  Then coil it and stitch together to make a mat or even a bowl.  What fun!  This is one of the projects that people wanted us to teach when Chris Dolinar showed it at her Trunk Show this spring.

Supply List

  • A cotton clothesline (available at JoAnn)
  • A heavy-duty needle (Universal 100) or (Denim 100)
  • All-purpose sewing thread
  • A bobbin filled with your sewing thread
  • 2 fat quarters of contrasting but coordinating fabrics or scraps that you have at home  (These will be cut into 1” strips.  You can do the cutting before you come to class to save time.)  If you wanted to cut up an old garment, you could use the fabric from it instead.  Be creative!
  • Basic Sewing Kit
  • Sewing machine and all of its parts or borrow one from us.  If you borrow one from us, bring a 15J bobbin
  • A clothespin
