Serger Basics

That funny looking machine with all of the threads can be so enjoyable to use after you learn the basics.  In this class, you will learn how to thread your serger, balance the stitch,  serge a rolled hem, change the needles, and care for it.  Don’t let it intimidate you.  Once you master these techniques, you can serge miles and miles of stitches to make gorgeous things.  Join us in this class to overcome your fears and/or frustration of using your serger.

This class is for owners of any model of serger as long as you have a manual.

Bring:

  • Your serger, foot control, power cord, all of the tools and accessories that came with it and the owner’s manual–be sure to bring your tweezers and screwdriver!
  • Scissors
  • A spool or cone of red, green, yellow and blue threads.  These different colors of thread will be your “training wheels” until you master threading and tension.
  • Extra needles that fit your serger (size 80/12 or 90/14)
  • A small make-up or dental mirror
  • If you have difficulty seeing inside your serger, be sure to bring your eye glasses and a flashlight.
  • If you did not buy your serger at this store, bring your sales receipt.  There is a charge for this class if you did not buy from a Viking Sewing Gallery.
  • Paper and pen for notes

There is limited seating so reserve your spot early.
