Quilt Fun-da-Mentals #2–Piecing Squares

We will be piecing our first block of this series in this class.  It is called the Nine-Patch.  You will be learning how to:

  • Use a rotary cutter and quilting ruler to cut quilt block pieces accurately.
  • Sew a 1/4″ seam allowance perfectly.
  • Align seam intersections perfectly.
  • Press quilt blocks.

Supply List

  • Sewing machine with foot control and power cord
  • Scissors
  • Rotary cutter
  • Transparent cutting ruler (6” X 24” is ideal)
  • Sewing pins
  • ¼” piecing foot or ¼” piecing foot with guide
  • Thread (either all-purpose sewing polyester or 100% cotton)
  • 2 or 3 fat quarters of coordinating colors  OR  cotton scraps large enough to make four 4½” squares of one fabric and five 4½” squares of another fabric—another option is to make the center square of a third fabric.  DO NOT CUT THEM OUT BEFORE CLASS!
