Creative Sewing–“Deco” Denim Tote Class 1 of 2–CANCELED

In the first class (July 8), learn to use the decorative stitches on your sewing machine to make the blocks.   You will have homework between the two classes to finish all of the blocks.  Then, in the second class (July 22), you will sew them together in a chevron pattern to make a lined tote that you’ll be proud to carry or give as a gift.

Supply List

  • **½ yard denim—Precut at least 24 pieces to measure 4” X 8” each (you might cut a few more if some of your stitches blocks come out to be mistakes)
  • *Inspira Tear A-Way stabilizer
  • **½ yd. lining fabric
  • **7” zipper (if you want a zippered pocket inside)—optional
  • **¼ yd. ½” or wider ribbon (to go over the top of the zipper pocket inside the bag)–optional
  • *2 strips of Sew Soft batting measuring 1” X 18”  (or longer if you want a longer handle)
  • *Assorted colors of Robison Anton embroidery thread
  • **Sewing thread to match your denim
  • *Fabric cutting shears–or rotary cutter & mat
  • *Thread snips or small scissors
  • *Ruler
  • **Chalk marker
  • **Pins
  • *Edge joining foot
  • *J Foot
  • *B Foot
  • *S Foot if using a Designer 1, SE, Diamond, Ruby, or Topaz
  • *FastTurn tube turning set
  • *Size 90 Denim needles
  • *Sewing Machine with power cord, foot control, and accessory feet  (If you own more than one machine, bring the one with the most built-in decorative stitches.)
  • *Prewind at least 3 bobbins with bobbin thread
  • **If you want the sides of your tote bag to be stiffer than the store sample, you will need a package of Timetex or 2/3 yd. of heavy craft weight interfacing.

Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to have time to set up so that we can begin class on time.  Also, please be kind to those with fragrance sensitivity by not wearing perfumes or colognes.
