This pillow can be made with any serger. While making it, you will learn how to use decorative thread and how to make the necessary tension adjustments for it, how to gather ruffles, how to make a rolled hem, and how to make serger tucks. Have fun while learning how to better use your serger, and make a lovely pillow to grace your home!
Supply List
- 1 yard cotton fabric
- 2 spools decorative thread of different colors (a heavier thread like Pearl Crown Rayon or needle punch thread works out nicely for this application)
- 4 spools cone thread to match your fabric*
- Disappearing fabric marking pen,* Chaco Liner, or tailor’s chalk
- See-thru Ruler
- Straight Pins
- 16” pillow form
- Serger and all of its attachments and owner’s manual
- Tweezers
- Basic sewing kit
- Flashlight if you have a hard time seeing or Bright Lite
- Paper and pen for notes
Pre-class Preparation
- Cut fabric into the following pieces:
- 1 rectangle 25” x 17” (this will be the pillow top)
- 2 rectangles 10” x 17” (this will be the pillow backs)
- 3 strips (6” x 45” (this will be the ruffle)
- Bring remaining fabric scraps to class for testing.

Prerequisite:
Participants MUST know how to thread their sergers and have a basic knowledge of its operation to take this class. If you do not know how to do this, you can sign up for our Serger Owners 1 class.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for set up so that we can begin class on time. Also, let us know in advance if you will not be able to attend do we can call anyone on the waiting list. We do limit the sizes of our classes to give you optimum attention.
