In this Basic Sewing Fundamentals class, you will be making this tote bag with an applique’. It is an over-sized tote the size of a paper grocery bag. You will learn how to measure and cut accurately, sew straight lines, press, use a fusible web for applique’, and zigzag curved edges for applique’.
SUPPLY LIST
- 1 ¼ yd. canvas or denim fabric (If you get denim and it is not heavy, you will need 1 1/4 yd. of fusible interfacing, also. You do not need the interfacing if your fabric is heavy.)
- Basic sewing kit
- Sewing machine if you have one—bring all of its parts and pieces. If you do not have a machine, you may use ours. You will need a plastic 15J bobbin if you borrow ours–they are available in the Viking Sewing Gallery for $.75 each.
- Inspira Fusible Web (NOT the narrow strips)
- 1 sheet of plastic needlepoint canvas or a rigid piece of plastic or cardboard that can be used to make the bottom flat
- Sewing thread to match the fabric
- We will supply the fabric scraps for your applique’d flower and the embroidery thread for stitching it. If you want something other than what is on the sample bag, bring your own.
