Learn four different methods of applying a zipper in this class–an exposed zipper, a centered zipper, a lapped zipper, and a hidden zipper. It really is easy once you learn these techniques along with some extra tips. After you apply your zippers, Belva will even show you how to turn your samples into a make-up or gadget bag.
Supply List
- Sewing machine with its foot control, power cord, and accessory feet, especially your zipper foot!*
- Invisible zipper foot–If you have a Husqvarna Viking machine, you will need foot #412687045* (metal) or #413286545* (plastic). If you have a Singer, you will need foot #270 SP-163*. If you have another brand of machine, you will need the invisible foot specific to your machine, or get the generic invisible zipper foot that JoAnn’s sells; they are hanging above the invisible zipper display.
- Sewing scissors*
- 1/4″ to 3/4″ wide masking tape or painter’s tape (You can use other widths, but this one is preferred.)
- Sewing pins
- Seam gauge or tape measure
- Seam ripper
- Sewing thread to match your zippers
- 2–12″ regular nylon coil zippers (for the lapped and centered zipper applications)
- 1–12″ heavy metal coil or decorative zipper (for the exposed zipper application)
- 1–9″-11″ invisible zipper
- We will even provide the fabric! You may bring your own if you don’t want to take “pot luck.” The fabric that we will be using is upholestery samples.
